Research- ROUGH IDEAS

During today's research i have established what i want to do for the project. ·        Creating voxel medieval world environment In blender software. I have decided to go with voxel style due to it’s simplistic nature meaning that I don’t have to worry about modelling as I would have to with other shapes i.e. cylinder. ·        An idea was to have the character reach the prize at the end of the animation i.e. sword. ·        Another idea I had for this project was to create an animation cycle meaning that the video starts and ends in the same way. Ultimately, going against the typical model of a movie. ·        Another idea for the main character that I was thinking at some point was to have a main character a slime I was thinking of implementing this due to the animation aspect of the slime as it would be easier to do. However after some research as well I decid...

Research- Arctic

This piece focuses on a character who lives in arctic where one day he gets a letter to meet someone at night. However, at first he fails as the night just skips within the animation. Giving the short film a humour accent to it. Later on, he succeeds meeting the person who addressed the letter but it turned out it was a kid who was playing around with him. Overall, the piece had started off in a serious tone however as it progressed it turned into a comedy skit.  Furthermore, another interesting ideology is that we don't know when two people meet up whether they can see each other or not. However, the viewer is certain that he can see both characters due to the side shot that the creator has used to present the shot. Furthermore, with this animation it is evident use of depth of field to manipulate what the viewer has to focus on. For example in this shot the focus is first pulled on to the sun however after the viewer has established the setting the focus is pulled back on two mai...

Research- Porto

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlgtFrkzFXg&ab_channel=GilTerra This piece focuses on an adventure that would be in some sense similar to mine where the main character embarks to get the wine as he run out of it. And throughout the short film you can see that the character is desperate to do anything in order to achieve his destination. For this shot it is interesting the perspective they have used within the animation as it switches in between high angle and behind the shoulder angle.  Furthermore, what is also interesting that within the short film there are mentions of the name of it throughout in the form of adverts.

Research- Agent 327

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yHioWLdgnMI&ab_channel=CGMeetup This piece fools around with the concept of a secret agent playing on James Bond 007 but instead having Agent 327. Where he pretends to go to a place to get a haircut whereas in reality he was on a secret mission. Furthermore, the producers are showing that the Agent doesn't need a weapon but an equivalently deadly weapon is a hairdryer. As he uses it in first place to beat up the guy and later on to blow the place up. In my case it would be useful to look at it from the perspective to find an everyday normal object and give it abnormal usage in order to intrigue the demographic. This is because it show off originality and creativity instead of stereotypically using a gun to take down antagonists.

Research-Lego Movie

Lego Movie One of the pieces that would worth analysing for this project would be a Lego Movie this is due to the nature of the style that they are using which would be similar to mine as well as it is worth looking at how Warner Bros Studios are using various effect throughout the animation to make sure that the viewer focuses on the right part. In the following example you can see how they are using depth of field in order to make sure that focal point would be the protagonist at the current time. This also makes it more realistic and feels more organic.  In this example it is helpful for me to look at the shots they have used within the house. This is because in my project i am planning to start it in the house. Going back to the movie it is clear that they have used a wide shot as you can see majority of the house. Furthermore, another good inspiration/idea to take away would be how they have played around with lighting and that it was clearly intentional to put the protagonist...

Tutorials i have followed

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPrnSACiTJ4&ab_channel=BlenderGuru https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RaT-uG5wgUw&t=1s&ab_channel=BlenderGuru https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2qjqqfkH6E&t=344s&ab_channel=BlenderGuru https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2qjqqfkH6E&t=344s&ab_channel=BlenderGuru I have used these tutorials in order to create a donut which every beginner should start with. To do it i have followed the tutorial and have used sculpting tool, modelling and light tools. Furthermore, i have learnt about various rendering engines that are happening within Blender and how to de-noise your composition.  For example, I have learnt about materials within Blender and how they are the final piece of the work that everyone should do. Also, this is what sets the properties for the object like the colour the saturation, the roughness of it etc. Which all makes impact within set environment and how the following object is being presented.  Another thing i hav...

Moodboard

Following images follow the same trend of the voxel world/environment I am planning to make. Looking at pieces above it is clear that the style is unique. Furthermore, I have decided to make a piece with such a style because i find it appealing to look at. As well as the fact that if you look at it from afar you can’t tell that it’s voxel as squares blend in together. Personally, I would want to achieve the same effect in my piece. After further research I can tell that following style is a niche except for a fact that Lego is making Lego Movies with similar art style. But except that not a lot of people are invested into it. Potentially, highlighting a fact that the animation I would make would an original piece and I could explore the genre fully as not a lot of people have.

Research and learning

Today i have been following couple tutorials regarding Blender as i am a novice to the software but was keen beforehand to give it a go. So, i have decided that this project is a perfect opportunity to learn something new.   As every beginner of blender i started with doing a Donut tutorial by BlenderGuru. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPrnSACiTJ4&ab_channel=BlenderGuru

1st of February session

During today's session we have been introduced to the independent project module as well as we have been given ideas as to what we might do as the anchor point for our own ideas. At this stage I am thinking of doing either a Raspberry Pi based project or Blender project however i am not sure which one would feasible to do in the current situation.
